A supreme effort for the first edition of "You're Welcome"; which we are kindly reminded several times by Chael P Sonnen, is available on PodcastOne, highlights the case that the former UFC Middleweight title contender is even smarter than we thought.
It's becoming alternatively popular for ex-fighters, ex-wrestler to start up their own shows, Steve Austin, Chris Jericho being examples. This is something that we should see more of, because who's better to give you an insight on an event, or a specific moment than the people who lived it? Supremely that's a recipe for success.
On my twitter feed I saw a diverse range of comments surrounding this podcast, mainly about his first guest, MMA media figure head Ariel Helwani. Nevertheless, I feel this is little justification to not give the show a chance, given it is hosted by one of the most marketable fighters the UFC has ever enjoyed.
Firstly, for those who DON'T GET IT, this is a genius concept from Sonnen, and hugely ironic. The fighter hosting the media personality on a podcast? That itself showcases the Battlegrounds MMA pundit's humorous personality that has made him such a huge star.
One of the attributes which makes this podcast especially good is its length. Usually when someone recommends me a show, the actuality of me indeed listening to it is based on its duration. For example, The MMA Hour; hosted by Sonnen's guest Helwani, is one of my favourite shows on the net, but due to it regularly lasting almost four hours, it is rare that I'm able to sit down and enjoy it.
Even if you don't intend on tuning in every week to linger on the verbal rainbows Sonnen is able to articulate, the first episode in the series is a recommendation. I won't go into too many specifics of what the 'Bad Guy' and Helwani indulged in but it's very amusing.
There is however, some great appreciation into the mind of Sonnen, not forgetting this is the first time; on his own terms, he's spoken, albeit briefly, on his TRT situation. Factor this into a very lively, and responsive guest in Helwani, who arguably leads the interview more than partaking, and a very silly Chris Leben story, which will hopefully feature regularly, you've found yourself an MMA goldmine.
Chael Sonnen, we're welcome.
