FCC 11 returns this Saturday in the De Vere suite at the Macron Stadium, Bolton with a card full of solid fights in both the amateur and pro set ups.
One fight which stands out from a packed amateur card as a potential Fight of the Night nominee is the bantamweight title clash between two of the North West’s finest amateurs, Robbie Fallon and Ben Dearden.
27 year old Fallon has appeared on FCC numerous times having last fought at FCC 10 where he made quick work of late stand in Will Cairns. This time fighting for the title is a great privilege he explains;
“I love fighting on FCC it’s the best show for amateurs in the UK so to be fighting for the title is a great privilege”
He currently fights out of the highly rated MMA Academy in Liverpool under head coach Jason Tan. The gym is home to a host of top UK pro’s such as FCC Flyweight champion Pietro Menga, TUF 18 semi finalist Mike Wootten and Aaron Aby who also features on FCC 11. Fallon claims that training with these fighters day in day out is hugely beneficial to his development particularly as the three mentioned are in similar weight categories to him;
“Yeah we have a great level of lighter guys in the gym. It's good as I'm constantly being pushed in sparring helping me build on techniques. It's comforting fighting as an amateur training with top ranked pros”
His opponent Ben Dearden is coming off two submission wins and with Fallon being known for his grappling skills himself it could be expected that Saturday’s fight turns into a grappling affair but Fallon is happy wherever the fight may end up;
“I will be happy to take the fight anywhere, most of my wins are by sub but at the MMA Academy I am constantly developing all areas with high level coaches and sparring partners”
One thing’s for sure, wherever the fight ends up come Saturday, Fallon has no plans for it to go the full 5 rounds;
“All I can say is I'm looking to finish the fight”
Robbie would like to thank the following people for helping him prepare for this fight:
“Thanks to Jason Tan, Peter Davies from the MMA Academy for pushing me in the pro sessions every day. Also my long time BJJ coach Lucio Sergio. My sponsors Progress JJ & Almighty Fightwear”
