UFC Fight Night 52 Betting Guide

UFC Fight Night 52 Betting Guide

by Will Martin - @BIGBILBAR7MMA

So the UFC returns to the land of the rising sun for UFC Fight Night 52 with an event headlined by two of the hardest hitting and popular Heavyweights there are in Mark "the Super Samoan" Hunt and Roy "Big Country" Nelson. Personally I love the card, there's so many interesting match ups but betting wise it's not the best. Here are three bets that I love for Saturday's card.

Bet 1

Miesha Tate 1/3
Kiichi Kunimoto 4/9
Alex Caceres  4/9
Sam Sicilia  5/4
Michinori Tanaka 8/15

So here is my Parlay for this weekend, a really nice looking bet with only 1 underdog and 4 pretty definitive favourites. So lets start with the underdog, Sam Sicilia. He faces off against the always awkward Katsunori Kikuno. The reason I really like this match up and Sicilia is because he is an extremely aggressive fighter with big power in his hands and Kikuno although landing some good shots on previous opponent Tony Ferguson ended up running away from him after he felt his power and I can see the same here. However, Sicilia needs to watch out for Kikuno's hands and his aggressive takedown attempts if he does this a win should be on the cards for the former TUF veteran.

Caceres and Kunimoto are great additions to the parlay as both have very favourable match ups and should come out with the W. Tanaka is a guy I have watched on the Japanese MMA scene for the past few years and he is going to go a long way in the sport. He has a tough match up with fellow grappler Kyung Ho Kang but I think he has the better top game and ground game and I can see Tanaka finishing this fight via Submission.

Last choice in this bet is the former Strikeforce champion Miesha Tate who faces off against the undefeated yet virtually unknown Rin Nakai this should be easy for Tate but in her last performance against Liz Carmouche she looked sluggish and jaded and was very lucky to get the decision but I'm going to stick with Miesha here. The usual £5 stake returns just under £50 which is a nice little return, all the best if you take this bet forward.

Bet 2

Johnny Case 5/4
Maximo Blanco 4/7
Roy Nelson 11/10

Treble time now and I have chosen a couple of underdogs with an unpredictable favourite. First up is UFC newcomer Johnny Case, a 18-4 record in the regional circuits got him his call to the big leagues. Case is a strong all around striker with heavy hands which makes him a very dangerous guy on the feet but Case also has a decent wrestling background and he will need it here as his opponent Kazuki Tokudome will most certainly look to get the fight to the ground. In the end i think Case will have more than enough to get the decision victory.

Up next, Maximo Blanco who may come from Venezuela but has trained for many years out of the Yoshida Dojo. Blanco is extremely unpredictable on the feet and on a occasions in the past has had trouble keeping within this side of the rules but he is always exciting to watch. Blanco faces off against the New Zealander Daniel Hooker who is coming off a great stoppage in his homeland back in June. Hooker, who has pretty terrible takedown defence will most likely be taken down by Maximo but down there he has vicious elbows and strikes due to his long limbs and he cannot be underestimated but i like Blanco by decision here.

Last but no means least is one half of the fabulous main event we have in store. Now I'm not going go into this match because we all no what the game plans will be, but this is as close a 50/50 as you have today in the UFC . I personally like Roy Nelson, but there is no real clear favourite in this match up. I can see Roy eventually trying to take this fight to the ground as he has the clear advantage here but Hunt's recent improvement in his takedown defence may stop that. Either way we are in for a treat with this match up and a £5 stake gets you a return of £40, so its a pretty nice treble...Good Luck!

Bet 3

This is my underdog pick of this card and could actually have been any one of three i liked but i have decided i am going to go with returning TUF 7 champion Amir Sadollah who also faces a guy coming off a long return in Japanese showmen Yoshiro Akiyama. This is a particularly even match up, but i just think Sadollah will want it more and with a better wrestling game i could see him taking this to the ground and staying heavy and taking the decision victory. At 6/4 thats not bad odds.

So, that's my advice providing you with some of the bets i like this week. Also, before the event starts always check the method of victory as you can get some great prices in there if you do any of these bets. Good luck and come join me next time as i try to win you some money at my pick for card of the year next week, UFC 178!
