A horrific injury for Tom Watson may see him sidelined until next year
by Connor Hutton - @ConnorHutton94UFC Fight Night 47 showcased a number of competitive fights with Bangor, Maine proving to be a rewarding stomping ground for both Englishmen on the card, as both Ross ‘The Real Deal’ Pearson (16-7-1) and Tom ‘Kong’ Watson (17-7) were triumphant.
It was a back and forth war between between Tom and Team Quest’s Sam ‘Smilin’ Alvey (23-6) who was making his UFC debut. However Watson’s victory came at a painful cost.
The Southampton born middleweight managed to grind out a hard fought victory via unanimous decision, not only did he leave Bangor with the win, he probably saved his UFC career in the process after recovering from two straight defeats.
Despite his performance, Watson picked up a nasty injury at the Cross Insurance Center, fracturing his tibia during the bout, yet he continued to push the pace and take the fight to Alvey.
The injury could see him sidelined for quite sometime depending on the severity of the fracture, although Watson did take to Twitter to suggest a return to action could be on the cards next February when the UFC returns to London.
Elsewhere on the card, Ross Pearson shook off a controversial decision loss to Diego Sanchez with a second round stoppage against Gray Maynard (11-4-1) in the co-main event, meaning Maynard suffered his third straight loss via TKO.
