Groundhog Day

As the classic 90’s dance anthem said… “All aboard, the Night train bandwagon.”

Listen, Anderson Silva failed an out of competition drug test. That we can all agree on, it is fact aha, in fact.

We do not know the specifics just as we do not know what he himself has to say. We do know that this was out of competition and that the steroids in question while technically labelled as a PED are as dissimilar to Testaviron and 4-Hydroxytestosterone as Rum is to Lager.

In fact, Dostranolone on its own gives the user little gain unless stacked with one of the previous mentioned (or another form of enhancement test enhancer). What it can be useful for is one or both of the following; muscle mass (as a preventative or rehabilitator for injury) or lowering cholesterol and fat burning. Furthermore, what we do know is that Anderson Silva passed his ‘in competition’ drug tests and his t/e levels have purportedly come back as normal.

These are the facts and anybody with half an ounce of work ethic or interest can find these out. Unfortunately it seems that this isn’t vogue in MMA journalism and it’s much easier to write a few hundred words with about as much factual content as The Daily Fail.

What we also know is that around November 2014 Anderson Silva reportedly injured his back; the date of injury and type of injury correlate with the approximate date(s) of which these steroids would have been administered. This is what would be deemed as circumstantial evidence supporting the surmised reason for use.

Looking at this objectively still; what we don’t know is why Anderson Silva took Dostranolone and only he can clear that up. It could be for a plethora of reasons or it could be one of said plethora. We can only wait and see, orrr we can just assume and label him the breville. It would be illogical to take this type of steroid out of competition for performance enhancing reasons; it would be in fact a rookie mistake.

The Anderson Silva we saw in the Octagon at UFC183 certainly showed no signs of an athlete under the influence of performance enhancing drugs. For an easy visual comparison I ask you to look at Vitor Belfort in any of his matches after the Jon Jones fight. That is the difference between a fighter taking a serious PED in competition and a fighter using something minor out of competition. I’m not trying to belittle this or trivialise it. Regardless, it is against the rules in governed MMA. However what I am trying to do is bring some rationality to the matter, a matter which has been blown massively out of proportion. This may seem sacrilegious to some, how dare I suggest this, but it’s true.

A little comparison which may help, if you have knowledge of through experience or study of steroidal use, is that this is similar to taking Dianobol. An athlete, a fighter with Anderson’s wealth that wanted to gain advantage over his opponent would take something a lot more beneficial. Believe me there are steroids out there for those with money, which could be very easily kept hidden.

Anyway, time will tell. I hope I’ve given some insight. Thanks go to Brad Wharton for his insight which helped me to write this and to MMA this and that for really shitty reporting that made me want to write this.

If anybody is outraged by this article well, I don’t care. Give me a shout on Twitter to discuss if you want.

Rushy out.
