With a packed schedule of fights Stateside this weekend, there are a handful of must see fights that could define how 2015 takes shape. With events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday there is no shortage of outstanding fights to take your fancy but here are my top three fights you must watch this weekend.
Benson Henderson vs Donald Cerrone
Everyone is talking about UFC's return to Boston - mostly thanks to the brash Conor McGregor. But it is the co-main event that has my attention. Former champion Benson Henderson taking on fan favourite Donald Cerrone. The crazy Cowboy is back in action just 15 days following his dominating victory over Miles Jury. Now on a six fight win streak and going for a seventh against Henderson, it would be hard not to make the case for a title shot for Cerrone.
Questions still remain over Henderson following a defeat to Rafael dos Anjos last time out. With two previous wins for Henderson over Cerrone, the odds most probably lean in his favour. However, given their recent fortunes it's all to play for on Sunday night.
Cerrone has notched up two fight of the night bonuses, a knockout of the night and a submission of the night in his last six fights so there's never a dull moment when he steps in to the octagon. Henderson has been the master of squeaking the closest of close decisions so if this one goes the distance it could be fireworks.
Conor McGregor vs Dennis Siver
Elsewhere on the same card Conor McGregor has become the poster boy for UFC Fight Night Boston and with talk of a title shot in the event of a win for the Irishman all eyes will be on this one as the Irishman takes on underdog Dennis Siver. With the odds so heavily in McGregor's favour this one could easily have been placed in the 'miss match' category. That may actually be the case. But when you factor in what is on the line for the UFC, this one becomes must see TV.
Can the rising star seal his date with destiny or can the talented underdog derail the hottest property in the game?
The thing is, when someone tells you what they are going to do, it's hard not to want to tune in and see if they get it right.
Georgi Karakhanyan vs Bubba Jenkins
Friday night sees two outstanding featherweight bouts take place as Bellator 132 kicks off the weekend of action. Whilst the featherweight title is due to be defended when Patricio Pitbull takes on challenger, and former champion, Daniel Straus. However, the co-main event should be the main talking point of the evening. It sees former World Series of Fighting featherweight champion Georgi Karakhanyan take on Bubba Jenkins.
Karakhanyan left WSOF following his defeat to Rick Glenn and returns to Bellator hoping to set up a crack at the title.
Jenkins has strung together a good winning run himself and could be in title contention with a win here, making this co-main event almost as, of not more, relevant than the title fight itself.
With a whole weekend schedule mapped out, these are the three fights that can't be missed.
