Corey Anderson controls Justin Jones en route to Unanimous Decision victory
by Ben Heather @benheatherCorey Anderson returned to action for the first time since winning The Ultimate Fighter Season 19 crown and was looking to continue his undefeated record. Anderson was originally scheduled to fight Gian Villante who had to pull out of the fight due to injury. Two opponents later and Anderson would step in against newcomer Justin Jones.
A good first round and both men are throwing and landing bombs. Jones is trying to lock in a guillotine choke as soon as he sees an opening and nearly had it half way though the first. As the round goes on Anderson looks to be getting the better of Jones and finishes the round on top of Jones following a take down.
Both men continue where they started round one, throwing bombs and if one of these connects cleanly it could be lights out for either man. Anderson wants to prove his dominance in this fight and lands a big takedown after rushing Jones across the cage. As in the first round nothing comes from the take down and they return to there feet. Jones seems to have a second wind and for a minute seems to take control of the fight with his strikes but Anderson soon returns to control the fight finishing the round with another takedown.
Jones needs to finish in this round if he wants to get the W. Anderson opens the third with Jones against the cage and teeing off with his knees before picking him up and running across the cage with him and dumping him down. Jones attempts to scoot up the cage to get the fight back to the feet but Anderson drags him straight back down.
Anderson lands a big spinning back elbow before the fight returns to the floor as Anderson brings to an end a fight he controlled from start to finish.
Next time out it would be nice to see Anderson put in with a more skilled fighter, I know this was a short notice step in but Anderson was clearly a level up on Jones.
Official Decision: Corey Anderson def. Justin Jones via Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)
