Colin Fletcher wants to get back to exciting fights starting at BAMMA 17

Colin "Freakshow" Fletcher discusses life after the UFC and getting back to exciting fights ahead of his crucial lightweight clash against Michael Brightmon at BAMMA 17, December 6th at the Manchester Victoria Warehouse.

Fletcher (10-4) meets Brightmon (13-4) to decide Mansour Barnaoui's next lightweight title challenger, however "Freakshow" stated he has delved less into his opponent's style due to previous errors.

"To be totally truthful, I've been trying to stay away from watching too much of his stuff. I'm trying to do what I used to do where I basically didn't care and I would just go in and just do my style because I think sometimes when I've irrupted someone too much tried to adapt my style to suit theirs and It's kind of stifled what I do.

"I'm trying to go back to my routes of doing me well, rather than trying to adapt me to the best of someone else, I'm trying something different."

Having not finished a fight since his 2011 win over David Round at BAMMA 8, the Unity Gym athlete wants to get back to doing what he does best: "Realistically, I want to be in exciting fights whether I'm winning losing or draw. I don't want to be in these long drawn out fights, where it's very close and 1-1 and split decision.

"I want to get back to putting stamps on fights and being exciting to watch for myself and other people. That's what my future plan is."

Fletcher, who appeared on The Ultimate Fighter SMASHES season also spoke about his tough time in the UFC, and how perhaps he could have done better in the world's biggest promotion.

"It didn't really get off the ground, I let myself down in some regards but I'm a human at the end of the day and I  kind of dealt with what I was given , I could have tried harder but there were some things going on in the background."

The Sunderland based fighter also attributed his previous success, and his continual improvement as a mixed martial artist to the crop of talent in the North East of England, and the family like environment in which they train.

Fletcher said: "We've all been friends for a very long time, realistically we all kind of started out at the same time, fighting on Total Combat. 2007 sort of thing we were all kind of friends and knew each other, on the same circuit and as times gone on we've all started teaching our own classes.

We've all been around each other for so long, we're close friends, there probably ten to fifteen guys who are all ranked within the top ten of their weight in the country who at any minute are just going to jump into the gym and all spar with each together. so we've got a really, really, really strong group of lads."
