If you want to win a bit of money but you need some guidance then take a look at Kingdom MMA’s predictions, our ‘favourite five’ below, a few fighters who you may fancy picking.
1. Mauricio Rua - ($5300) Shogun (22-9) looks to rebound from a devastating TKO defeat to Dan Henderson when he takes on the late replacement Ovince Saint Preux (16-6) who will also be hungry to get back to winning ways after a poor performance in a decision loss to Ryan Bader.
Despite a poor record of 6-7 in the UFC, Shogun still has the ability to take out any top fighter, which is why those six wins in the octagon have all come by way of knockout. OSP is a tricky customer to figure out, but we anticipate a bog standard striker vs. wrestler match-up. The Brazilian will be driven by his native supporters and we expect him to outclass Saint Preux with the help of his top level experience, we're going with Shogun to prevail via KO.
2. Ian McCall - ($5100) Undeniably the most important fight on the card in terms of rankings and potential match ups for Mighty Mouse as Ian 'Uncle Creepy' McCall (13-4-1) faces off against John Lineker (24-7) in a high stakes flyweight bout. McCall rides a two fight win streak, most recently defeating top contender Brad Pickett via unanimous decision, whilst Lineker will be eager to build on a TKO victory against Alptekin Ozkilic.
Some say the lighter fighters can't pack a fight defining punch, tell that to Lineker who has finished 12 of his 24 wins by knockout. However, one shot power may prove to be too little to hold up against McCall's arsenal. Along with the champ and Joseph Benavidez, Uncle Creepy is just the next level above the competition in the flyweight division, we expect McCall to outwork his way to a decision victory and also pick up plenty of Kountermove points along the way.
3. Leon Edwards - ($4300) A match-up of virtually undefeated fighters featuring the Englishman Leon 'Rocky' Edwards (8-1), who makes his UFC bow when he throws down with Claudio Henrique 'Hannibal' da Silva (10-1), both blemishes on each guy's record coming via DQ. Edwards recently vacated the British Welterweight title at BAMMA where he went 5-0, whereas Silva made it ten in a row when he defeated Brad Scott in his octagon debut back in March.
The key to success for Edwards is keeping it on the feet, Silva has strung together six first round submission victories in his career so 'Rocky' will most likely aim to light up his opponent with his accurate punching ability. Whether it's a first round knockout, or a striking clinic for three rounds, you can pick up great value for points with Edwards on your team.
4. Thomas Almeida - ($5300) The Brazilian Thomas Almeida is finally making his long overdue UFC debut, just 23-years-old, 17-0, 17 finishes, 15 of which inside the first round and all 17 wins inside three years. Staggering stats for the potential star who makes his bow in the bantamweight division against Tim 'The Psycho' Gorman (8-3), who will be hoping to get back in the win column after a decision defeat to Mitch Gagnon.
It's easy to look at stats and make a split second judgement, but in this case Almeida deserves the backing, points are sure enough guaranteed if you pick 'Thominhas' in your favourite five. Watch out for this one, a finish is waiting to cash in on, not to mention the experience factor, at such a young age it's surprising to see so many fights under Almeida's belt, but it could be the difference maker this weekend.
5. Dhiego Lima - ($4800) Two locals collide in a welterweight bout as Dhiego Lima (9-2) meets Jorge Antonio 'Blade' Cezario de Oliviera (7-0). Lima is hunting his first win in the UFC after Eddie Gordon defeated him at TUF 19 whilst Oliviera makes his debut inside the Ginásio Municipal Tancredo Neves.
Despite Oliviera's unblemished record thus far in his MMA career, it's Lima who may have the edge after gaining vital experience against legit competition after spending time in the TUF house. Both men have finished seven fights with a mixture of success on the ground and striking, it's a tough fight to call but one we are confident will deliver you a healthy points return. Lima is capable of ending the fight wherever it goes, not to mention the key experience of going the distance inside the cage.
