It was recently announced that Holly Holm's (7-0 MMA) much anticipated UFC debut has been put on hold due to a neck injury. This left her opponent Raquel Pennington (4-4 MMA 1-1 UFC) without an opponent for UFC 181 which takes place on December 6th. That was until today when the UFC announced that Pennington will be fighting another UFC debutant who is also undefeated.
Ashlee Evans-Smith (3-0 MMA) will step in on less than three weeks notice to face the toughest test of her professional MMA career. Evans-Smith rose to fame in October last year when she became the first and only person to defeat Fallon Fox, the transgender fighter who has constantly been in the news the past couple of years. Since then Evans-Smith defeated Marciea Allen at WSOF 10 in June by third round TKO.
Pennington who was part of The Ultimate Fighter series 18 before making her Octagon debut at The Ultimate Fighter Series 18 Finale defeating Roxanne Modafferi. However, last time out she dropped a split decision to Jessica Andrade in March.
UFC 181 is headlined by the rematch between Johnny Hendricks and Robbie Lawlor for the Welterweight title and will also see Anthony Pettis finally defend his Lightweight title against Gilbert Melendez.
