Roundtable: Following Release from UFC, What's Next For Danny Mitchell

With news breaking earlier today that Yorkshire born fighter Danny Mitchell has been release from the UFC following a 0-2 run in the promotions welterweight division, the team at Kingdom MMA discuss what's next for the 28-year-old Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt, who has fought for both Bamma and Cage Warriors in his career.

Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMA

Their is no doubt the AVT Fight Team man is talented, his jiu-jitsu is some of the best the UK has to offer, and he has an unpredictable style of stand-up. However he's been unable to link this all together on the big stage. Two losses to C-class UFC fighters sent him packing, but a few domestic level wins under his belt. and there is no doubt a UFC return or Bellator debut could definitely be a reality.

As far as competition in the UK, there aren't too many guys in BAMMA, with Leon Edwards being called up to the UFC, but Walter Gahadza would be a very interesting fight. Cage Warriors is a different set-up, Tom Breese, Simon Thoresen, and Jimmy Wallhead are all potential wars.

Chris Houten - @mrhouts

After tough year that saw Mitchell's father pass away, I think Mitchell should take a well deserved break which will give him the opportunity to assess where he went wrong in his 2 UFC fights and enjoy the birth of his child in the further coming months. Mitchell is an exception talent and I think he will come back stronger. He has wins over several fighter who are on impressive runs in the UFC at the moment but he just couldn't seem to put it together himself.

Mitchell is a veteran of the UK scene, having fought for both Bamma and Cage Warriors in his career, and he will be a welcome addition to any promotion. If Bamma are wise, they will go all out to sign Mitchell who has a strong following when he returns, having seen their welterweight division loss both Paul Daley and Leon Edwards in recent months, and they do have a couple of decent match ups available for him in Ryan Scope and Walter Gahadza. Career wise though, Cage Warriors might be the better option witht he likes of Danny Roberts, Tom Breese, Simeon Thoresen, Jim Wallhead, and Nicolas Dalby all names capable of getting his career back to where it should be.

Ben Heather - @benheather

Having only fought once for both Bamma and CW in the past Mitchell could end up at either of these bigger promotions on the European scene however I wouldn't be surprised if he went on to one of the smaller but still very well run promotions such as FCC or one where we would fight more regularly in Yorkshire where he is based. Maybe even an AON tournament.

I am not surprised he has been released as the last loss looks pretty bad on his record but he has proven in the past he can hang with current UFC fighters and has beat some of the current roster. A few wins outside the UFC and I am sure we will see the cheesecake assassin back in the Octagon.

Alex Dillion - @ADillon__

Although he lost in both of his UFC outings, Mitchell gave good accounts both times but ultimately it doesn't come as a shock to see him given the chop. One of the most impressive things about Mitchell is that even before the UFC, he was well traveled, fighting all over the world which can't be said for many UK fighters so I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up floating around different promotions again.

That being, he has good names on his record and is a likeable personality so I could see him going to the likes of Cage Warriors or BAMMA and attempting to climb the ladder. There are certainly a lot of domestic match ups that could come his way and ones things for sure, the Cheesecake Assassin won't struggle to find new employers.
