3e continue their huge support for Conor McGregor in the UFC
by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMA3e will air Conor McGregor’s next fight against American Dustin Poirier, ranked 5th in UFC's featherweight division, on the undercard of Demetrious Johnson vs. Chris Cariaso, at UFC 178 in Las Vegas on Saturday 27th September, on a delayed basis. All of the action will kick-off on 3e next Monday 29th September from 9.30pm with UFC 178 Countdown, followed by Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor at 10pm.
3e has agreed delayed free-to-air broadcast rights in Ireland with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) for delayed access to all Pay-Per-View events from America and Europe. The two-year partnership comes after 3e, part of the TV3 Group, broadcast the recent UFC Fight Night Dublin to record audiences.
3e’s free-to-air coverage of the event will allow Irish UFC fans a chance to see ‘The Notorious’ in action. The Dubliner has made the top ten of the division for the first time following his technical knockout of Diego Brandao in front of a packed out O2 Dublin last July. There’s been plenty of ‘trash talk’ with McGregor confident of putting Poirier away in the 1st round. It’s an important clash that will surely elevate McGregor to new heights in UFC circles if his prediction of a first round victory comes true. In addition to this Monday’s UFC 178 event, 3e will also broadcast the main cards from nine UFC events from Europe as well as weekly magazine shows, UFC Now and UFC Insider.
To kick start 3e’s ‘fight night’, X Men: The Last Stand will be shown at 7.30pm ahead of the UFC 178 Countdown and to keep the action going all night, the high octane, blockbuster, The Expendables, starring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Jet Li, will be broadcast at midnight, directly after the highly anticipated UFC 178.
TV3 Group Head of Sport, Kieran Holden, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with the UFC and we thank them for their support in enabling the TV3 Group to broadcast the biggest and best UFC events to Irish audiences on a delayed free-to-air basis.
“Our relationship with the Ultimate Fighting Championship has blossomed after working together at ‘UFC Fight Night in Dublin’ earlier this summer.
“That event, broadcast on 3e, reached a massive 600,000 viewers proving how quickly Mixed Martial Arts has grown in Ireland. Conor McGregor has quickly become one of the biggest names in Irish sport and we are thrilled to be able to show his next fight to the free-to-air viewers in Ireland.”
Garry Cook, UFC Chief Global Brand Officer, said: “We are thrilled to have agreed a partnership with 3e following a very successful event in Dublin this year. The partnership not only signifies the growth of UFC within EMEA but confirms the impact the UFC has made and potential for the sport of MMA within Ireland.”
3e is available on 5 on Saorview, Sky 105 and UPC 106.
