Check out how to join our Kountermove "pick 'em" tournament for UFC Fight Night 47
by Andreas Georgiou - @AGeorgiouMMAHere at Kingdom MMA we are always thinking of new ways to stay interactive with our readers. We are now happy to announce a new partnership with fantasy MMA website Kountermove that will bring you exclusive “pick em” tournaments for all UFC and Bellator MMA events.
For those of you wondering what on earth I'm talking about, here's the low-down. The whole premise of Kountermove tournaments are that you draft the team of fighters who you think will win. Within these fights, fighters are awarded points based on strikes, takedowns, rounds won, etc.
You can join our Kountermove tournament for Fight Night 47: Bader vs OSP with a chance to win $25 right here: http://www.kountermove.com/join/30927-kingdommmas-fight-night-47-25-freeroll-game-on-ufc-fight-night-47-bader-vs-saint-preux-T-free/
So here are our predictions for who you should pick if you want to win some money. Our “favourite five” for this Kountermove tournament.
1. Ovince Saint Preux ($5500) – The main event of Fight Night 47 is a tasty light-heavyweight encounter between Ryan Bader (17-4) and Ovince Saint Preux (16-5). Both men have a lot to prove in the 205 division, and a win would be detrimental to their future title aspirations. The fight is being teased as an extremely close contest, however if OSP can whether a predictable early storm from Bader, then he has a good chance to take the fight.
Players can pick up points from OSP, who will most likely try and keep the fight on the ground, and look for his deadly submissions. Although, Bader has good submission defence, so it won't be easy for the Haitian-American to finish the fight. Big points are up for grabs if OSP drags this one out over five rounds.
2. Zach Makovsky ($4500) – The “Fun Size” Flyweight is our second top pick for UFC Fight Night 47 as he clashes with the tough Brazilian, Jussier Formiga. Makovsky (18-4) is riding a four fight win streak, which include wins over tough opponents Scott Jorgensen and Josh Sampo. Formiga has had a tough string of fights, but also beat Jorgensen last time out.
Although Formiga is favourite for many leading into this fight, I'm imploring Kountermove players to go with Makovsky. Formiga's Brazilian jiu-jitsu is on point and dangerous for anyone in his guard, however Makovsky will look to use his wrestling to evade the Brazilian. Expect Makovsky to keep the fight standing and very technical, taking the match on points.
3. Tim Boetsch ($4600) – The 33 year-old Barbarian is looking to bounce back from an overwhelming defeat to Luke Rockhold, but by no stretch of the imagination will Brad Tavares (12-2) be a walk in the park.
Boetsch (17-7) has only won one of his last four fights, but his exceedingly gritty style of fighting could prove a problem for Tavares, who struggled with a similar mannered Yoel Romero. Boetsch will look to smother Tavares, and providing he can avoid being on his back, Boetsch's superior hand power and strength should be the difference in this fight.
4. Robert Peralta ($5000) – In arguably the most explosive fight in Bangor, Maine, featherweights clash as Robbie Peralta takes on Thiago Tavares, who is making his featherweight debut.
Tavares will undoubtedly be on of the bigger guys at 145lbs, however Peralta is still most people's choice for this fight, unsure to how Tavares will compete with the weight cut. It will be Peralta's heavy stand-up which is the difference maker, with 13 of his 18 wins coming by knockout.
5. Lauren Murphy ($4000) - The ultimate underdog at this weekend's event, Lauren Murphy (8-0) makes the move from Invicta FC where she held the Bantamweight title. McMann, the Olympic wrestling silver medallist was unable to hang with Women MMA's pinnacle Ronda Rousey, however that should not deter people from the fact she is still an incredibly talented athlete.
McMann will look for the takedown frequently, but Murphy's jiu-jitsu game is something to be feared. If she can keep McMann at bay on the ground, and showcase some of her fantastic stand-up like she did against Jennifer Scott and Miriam Nakamoto, she can bring Kountermove players some big points.
