Welcome to Fight Focus where instead of offering up a short preview of all the fights, the team at Kingdom MMA will now be individually breaking down the big fights from the upcoming cards.
This first edition focuses on Michael Bisping and C.B. Dolloway who both have a lot on the line this Saturday.
Michael ‘The Count’ Bisping will look to bounce back from his loss to Luke Rockhold, when he faces number 10 ranked middleweight CB Dollaway at UFC 186. Both veteran middleweights are coming off losses, and will be looking for a dominant performance to regain their position among the UFC’s elite.
Bisping has the highest work rate in the middleweight division and will look to outwork Dollaway and keep him on the outside, using leg kicks and straights. Although not known for his knockout power, Bisping hits hard and will look to wear down his opponent and look for a finish in the later stages of the fight.
Dollaway on the other hand is a big strong middleweight, although BIsping used to fight as a light heavyweight, its expected that Dollaway will have the strength advantage. The former Arizona State wrestler will look to use his size and push Bisping up against the cage, where he can work his takedowns. He also has some nasty chokes in his arsenal so if he manages to lock his arms around Bispings neck, it’s game over. The Doberman has constantly improving hands which he showcased in his finish of Cezar Ferreira, but I feel Bisping will have the advantage in the striking exchanges.
The winner of this fight will be the fighter who is able to keep the fight where he is comfortable.
If the fight stays standing, Bisping should win comfortably. Bisping will be too fast here for Dollaway and be able to pick him apart with his jab. If Dollaway is able to take Bisping down, I feel he will be able to keep him down and grind out a decision. Although Bisping has strong takedown defence, Dollaway will take confidence from Bisping’s fight with Tim Kennedy, where he was taken down at ease several times. Although Dollaway may hit harder than his opponent, Bisping has shown in previous fight he can be hard to hit, using good footwork and head movement to avoid shots.
This promises to be an entertaining fight, where two veterans will look to prove they are still relevant in the middleweight rankings and not just simply gatekeepers.
