If the signing of Joseph Duffy by the UFC on Wednesday wasn't enough, then there has been another huge development for Irish MMA as the UFC have announced that submission specialist Paul Redmond has signed and will step in to replace Alan Omer against Mirsad Bektic at UFC on Fox 14 in Sweden later this month in the first outing of a 4-fight deal. Severe MMA first broke the news earlier this afternoon.

Redmond is currently 10-4 in his MMA career winning seven of his last eight fights. The Dublin man is best known for his favourite submission, the toehold, but has a crisp boxing game which has seen him win 5 of his fights via TKO.

In fighting Bektic though, it will mean that Redmond will be fighting at featherweight for the first time in his career after being at lightweight his whole career.

Bektic is considered of the top American featherweight prospects in the UFC currently. The 23 year-old is undefeated in eight fights having won his UFC debut against Chas Skelly in April of last year. Bektic currently trains with the likes of Will Brooks, Hector Lombard and UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler at American Top Team.

UFC on Fox 14 will go down on January 24th in the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden and will also feature Redmond’s teammate Neil Seery as he takes on Chris Beal in an event which is scheduled to be headlined by light heavy weights Alexander Gustafson and Anthony Johnson.
