Marlon Sandro Inks Multi-fight Deal with Pancrase
by Chris Houten - @ChrisHoutenMMAFormer Bellator fighter Marlon Sandro has signed a multi-fight deal with Pancrase. SMASH, the company that owns and operates Pancrase, announced the signing of Sandro earlier today.
A veteran of the Japanese MMA circuit where he made his name before joining Bellator, 37-year-old Sandro first fought for Pancrase in November 2007, winning the the promotions featherweight title before moving to Sengoku where he also went on to win the featherweight title.
Fighting out of Nova Uniao in Brazil alongside the likes of Renan Barao and Jose Aldo, Sandro signed with Bellator in 2010 after losing his featherweight title to current UFC featherweight Hatsu Hioki. Sando made his Bellator debut in the promotions 2011 Summer Series Featherweight Tournament beating Genair da Siva and Nazareno Malegarie to make it to the seasons final where he was beaten by Pat Curran by third round TKO.
Sandro also took part in the promotions Season Six Featherweight tournament, where he again made it to the final this time beating Rafael Dias, Roberto Vargas, Alexandre Bezerra, before falling at the last hurdle to Daniel Straus.
In September 2013, Sandro returned to Pancrase for the first time in five years to fight Yujiro Uchimura at the promotion's 20th year anniversary show, fighting to a draw. The fight was expected to be a one-time appearance with Sandro returning to face Chris Horodecki at Bellator 119 after, however the BJJ black belt is now set to return to Pancrase on a full time basis and will fight at the promotions April 26th show at Differ Ariake Arena:
Sandro joins Pancrase with a 25-5-1 record with 7 wins by TKO / KO and 6 wins by submission."I am very happy because Japan is my second home. Last year, I only fought once so I am now full of energy. I would fight anyone as long as my opponent is strong because the result will always be the same. I can't wait for April 26."
