Kingdom MMA brings you its latest Kountermove tournament this weekend, but for any newcomers who have a few questions, here is the essential information. Kountermove is simply fantasy MMA, pick a team of fighters who you think will win and your chosen fighters are awarded points based on strikes, takedowns and rounds won etc.
You can join our Kountermove tournament for UFC Fight Night: McGregor vs. Siver and be in with a chance to win some cash right here: http://www.kountermove.com/join/36993-kingdom-mmas-ufc-fight-night-59-mcgregor-vs-siver-25-kountermove-freeroll-game-on-ufc-fight-night-59-mcgregor-vs-siver-T-free/
If you want to win a bit of money but you need some guidance then take a look at Kingdom MMA’s predictions, our ‘favourite five’ below, a few fighters who you may fancy picking.
1. Donald Cerrone ($4800) - A year can be a lifetime in MMA and that has never been clearer for Donald Cerrone (26-6). We've seen an incredible transformation in 'Cowboy' since Rafael dos Anjos defeated him in 2013, and now with six wins inside 14 months, Cerrone finds himself in a trilogy bout with Benson Henderson (21-4) just two weeks after beating up Myles Jury. Henderson comes into this third fight 2-0 up and he will be desperate to rebound from his disappointing showing against RDA.
The key to this fight is simply progression, it's five years ago that Cerrone and Henderson last fought in the WEC, but who has come further over those years? Despite Henderson's more impressive resume in the UFC, I would have to go with Cerrone due to the way he has beaten his opponents, Henderson has had some sloppy and somewhat controversial decision victories whilst Cerrone has blasted through men in this current streak. It's going to be a hell of a fight, but Cowboy is too hot to be stopped right now, I'm expecting something spectacular from Cerrone.
2. Uriah Hall ($5500) - The injury bug came down hard on this fight, Uriah Hall (9-4) was scheduled to face off against Costas Philippou who was then replaced by Louis Taylor. However with a week to go Taylor pulled out and UFC newcomer Ron Stallings (12-6) stepped up.
Hall has recovered well from a stumbling start to his UFC career and he gained a lot of fans after gutting out his last win over Thiago Santos, despite suffering a compound fracture in his toe early in the bout. For Stallings it seems he has been fed like a lamb for slaughter, most of the MMA world are looking at this as the perfect opportunity for Hall to replicate something close to his highlight-reel KO on TUF 17. If Hall comes in looking for the kill then this could be ending quick but you'll be ending with a mega points return with Hall on your team.
3. Norman Parke ($4600) - Since beating Colin Fletcher in the TUF smashes final, Norman Parke (20-2-1) has remained undefeated in the UFC and all other organisations since 2010. Parke now faces one of the most experienced UFC veterans around in Gleison Tibau (30-10), the Brazilian comes in for his 24th octagon appearance since 2006.
Despite Tibau being just three years the elder to the 28-year-old Parke, this is very much a crossroads bout for both guys. Parke has the chance to prove his worth over one of the divisions longest serving fighters whose miles may be dwindling down. Over a 40 fight career, Tibau has only been stopped four times, so I expect this to go down to the judges. Following Parke's big win in Dublin and a lengthy lay-off I expect him to return reinvigorated and on the winning side of a decision.
4. Cathal Pendred ($4700) - This was a close one to call, both Cathal Pendred (15-2-1) and Sean Spencer (12-3) have picked up the majority of their wins via decision. Since signing with the UFC in 2013, Spencer is 3-2 in the organisation and he comes into this bout following the biggest win of his career over Paulo Thiago. Whereas Pendred is 2-0 since he joined the UFC in 2014, however the Irishman hasn't looked too impressive in the octagon thus far.
In this bout I believe we will see two guys try to out grind each other and from what we've seen of Pendred and Spencer in the UFC thus far it really could be a 50/50 toss up. If you're looking to save some of your budget on your Kountermove team then this may be the fight to bank it on. Pendred has the championship experience from his Cage Warriors days, he will feel like he's fighting on home soil with Boston most likely supporting the Irish guys, all things considered I'm leaning towards Pendred.
5. Chris Wade ($5300) - Lightweight prospect Chris Wade (8-1) burst into the UFC with a starching first-round submission victory back at UFC 177 and he now prepares for TUF china winner Zhang Lipeng (9-7) who is currently 2-0 in the UFC after defeating Brendan O'Reilly back in August.
Despite a career of ups and downs, Lipeng rides his best streak since 2012, however his wins in the octagon haven't exactly excited anybody. Wade certainly grabbed my attention after displaying powerful takedown ability and excellent top control against Cain Carrizosa, and if you consider Lipeng's seven losses include five via submission, you can see the blueprint for this fight. A submission finish may certainly be on Wade's mind and he'll add a hefty points return if he achieves it.
