It has been announced today that standout Irish lightweight Joseph Duffy (12-1) has signed for the UFC.

Duffy most known for wins over Irish UFC fighters Conor McGregor and Norman Parke recently fought under the Cage Warriors promotion last defeating Julien Boussuge via a brutal knee KO at Cage Warriors 74 in November. Prior to his MMA return at Cage Warriors 70 in Dublin, Duffy tried his hand at professional boxing amassing an undefeated record of 7-0 but cited persistent hand injuries as one of his main reasons for his return to the sport of MMA.

The signing provides a huge element of interest given he is the last man to defeat UFC featherweight standout Conor McGregor which is surely how the UFC will promote him in the build up to his debut fight but aside from this Duffy is an immensely talented fighter and certainly adds to the continuing "Irish takeover" in the UFC.

It is understood that he will debut in spring but no official announcement has been made regarding when as of yet.
