UFC 181 Prelims Review: Gordon vs Samman

Josh Samman Head Kick KO's Eddie Gordon at UFC 181

by Ben Heather @benheather

Eddie Gordon came in to this fight as The Ultimate Fighter champion and was making his first appearance since the finale earlier this year and would face off against another former TUF competitor in Josh Samman. Samman was part of the series 17 cast coached by Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen which was on TV a year previous to Gordon's series.

For 99% of the fight Gordon proved why he was crowned the TUF 19 middleweight champion controlling Samman for the whole first round. Going in to the second round the action continued exactly where it stopped at the end of the first and Gordon was looking very comfortable. Then came the moment which got every spectator in the arena off there seat. From nowhere Samman perfectly timed a huge head kick which knocked Eddie Gordon out cold before he had even hit the floor to pick up the biggest victory of his career. The kick landed perfectly as shin connected with the chin of Gordon and the lights went out.

For Samman today was much more than a fight, it was also the birthday of his girlfriend who passed away last year. Before this fight he mentioned how he had to fight today to honour her and he certainly did that. I also fully expect Samman to walk away $50,000 richer as well.

Official Decision: Josh Samman def. Eddie Gordon via KO Round 2, 3:08
