On Saturday night Mohsen Bahari (8-1) will step in to the cage and attempt to do what no man has done before, defeat Nicolas Dalby (12-0). If he can achieve this in the main event of Cage Warriors 74 he will walk away from the Copper Box Arena in London's Olympic Park as the new Cage Warriors Welterweight champion. However, before that he caught up with us to talk about "the biggest fight" in his career.
Ben: Tell us about when you got the call telling you Cage Warriors wanted you to fight for the world title. How did you find out? I should imagine it was a no brainer for you to accept the fight.
Bahari: I got an email from Ian asking if I would be ready to fight on November 15th. As it was the weigh in day for Cage Warriors 72 I got curious as the Cage Warriors crew are usually really busy leading up to events. So i checked the news and then I saw the whole picture and agreed right away.
Ben: How excited are you to have this opportunity to fight for the Cage Warriors world title?
Bahari: I am really excited for this as it is the biggest fight in my career.
Ben: Would a win next weekend be the greatest achievement of your career?
Bahari: The Cage Warriors welterweight division is stacked with great fighters, so it is a very prestigious achievement to capture that belt.
Ben: How honoured are you to be headlining such a great card, which has to be up there with the best cards in Europe this year?
Bahari: It is a huge honour to headline such a great card, I am really looking forward to some of the other fights on the card as well like Kianzad, Allen, Sexycurls, Maguire and Mulpeter.
Ben: When you found out Grimaud dropped out of his Cage Warriors 72 bout with Dalby did you think you would be next in line?
Bahari: I expected to be close but not next in line, I wasn't waiting for a title shot. I had an injury prior to the Alloway fight which got worse and I had to let it heal.
Ben: At any stage did Cage Warriors contact you and offer you the fight on short notice at Cage Warriors 72?
Bahari: There was some loose talk about it, but obviously it didnt happen.
Ben: There has been a lot of hype surrounding Dalby, but do you think that hype is justified?
Bahari: There is a lot of hype surrounding Dalby, maybe it's justified as he is a great fighter and a worthy champion but so am I, even without the hype.
Ben: Would it be fair to say that even though you have lost in your career and he is unbeaten, you have had the better career. Picking up bigger wins?
Bahari: I don't compare records, I think it is unnecessary to look at stats like that and make a prediction. Its MMA at a high level, the slightest mistake will be capitalised on. It's all about who will perform best on the night.
Ben: Although Dalby has proven to be one of the top talents in European MMA and so far has remained undefeated have you been able to identify any areas which you will be able to target on November 15th?
Bahari: No one is perfect, even if the record is.
Ben: Being that you are Norwegian and Dalby is from Denmark, does this add to the rivalry between you two?
Bahari: There is no added rivalry between us, we're just two professional athletes with the same goal and our paths just happen to cross now. Don't get me wrong, when it's on, it's on. Until then there is no need for WWE shit.
Ben: It seems Norwegian MMA has really rose to prominence over the last few years, what is it about the scene that has seen good championship worthy guys such as yourself and Jack Hermannson breakout of the scene?
Bahari: Norwegian MMA had its peak with Joachim Hansen and John Olav Einemo, and now they have passed the torch to us and we will take it to new levels.
Ben: What have you been working on since you beat Ben Alloway at Super Saturday?
Bahari: I have been working on every aspect of the game and I have improved on all of them.
I'm in the best shape of my life, my technical and physical abilities are at an all time high, you will see the best Mohsen Bahari on November 15.
