Paul Craig talks to Kingdom MMA ahead of FFC Resurgance

THE British light heavyweight scene may not be the strongest, deepest division, but this weekend sees one of the country's best return to action.

Scotsman, Paul Craig (3-0), headlines the return of Firstfighting Championship (FFC) at Hamilton Townhouse, Lanarkshire on Saturday night and he is gunning for a fourth straight victory to maintain his perfect record.

Scottish Hit Squad member, Craig was scheduled to take on Ryan Salamagnou (2-3) main event. That was until the Frenchman had to pull out through injury on Wednesday.

The promotion was quick in getting to work sourcing out a replacement as Craig now steps in against Daniel Konecke (1-2-1).

Speaking to KingdomMMA.co.uk Craig said:  "The last thing you want to hear as you walk into the gym, with a spring in your step, is that your opponent has pulled out three days before the fight.

"My first two pro opponents pulled out on me on fight week so I'm getting used to it and I don't think it matters that much. I train for a fight not a specific fighter."

The late replacement may not have given Craig and his team much time to scout the new opponent but Craig insists that doesn't matter to him. He said: "The only thing I know about him is that he is a good looking fella and that he had been training for a show that's been cancelled.

"I don't go into a fight with a game plan because that way your looking for it, I like to just let it happen".

FFC has become almost a home show for Craig's Scottish Hit Squad with a host of team mates all matched up.

"FFC treats the fighters brilliantly and the events are always very well run," he said. "You couldn't ask for better and that's why so many guys want to fight for FFC".
Scottish Hit Squad pro lightweight, Chris Bungard (3-0) will also be defending his perfect record on Saturday night.

Craig added: "The atmosphere in the gym when the team are fighting is great, loads of bodies on the mat, all working towards the same goal".

With Dana White hinting at a debut Scottish card sometime in 2015, Craig made no secret of his desire to get an opportunity eventually in an interview with The Herald's Stef Lach this week.

The ambitious goal has drawn the ire of fellow Scottish light heavyweight Rab 'Baloo' Truesdale (8-5-1), after seemingly taking a verbal jab at Truesdale in The Herald interview.

As a result, both men have exchanged insults over social media.

Craig explained: "I don't know how serious he intends it but I see it as just a bit of tongue in cheek banter.

"Robert talks a good game on social media and claims he wants the fight. When it happens, we and the rest of Scotland know what the outcome would be".

FFC Resurgance takes place on  Saturday September 13 from the Hamilton Townhouse.
